Scholarships
German Program Scholarships and Awards (2023-24)
APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 8, 2024, 1 p.m. Applications should be sent as email attachments to Professor Hildegard F. Glass at hfglass@uh.edu.
Students applying for the Texas German Endowment Scholarship, the German Studies Excellence Award and/or the Rodney Koenig Award only need to complete one application. We will automatically consider them for all scholarships for which they are eligible.
RODNEY KOENIG AWARD
- One or two scholarships award of $500-1,000 each recognizing outstanding performance in a German language, literature or culture class
Eligibility Requirements:
- Enrollment in at least one German language, culture, film or literature class during the 2023-24 academic year. Students at all levels of language learning are encouraged to apply.
- Preference will be given to students who have declared a major in the German concentration of the World Cultures and Literatures B.A. or have declared a minor in German or German Area Studies.
- Overall minimum GPA of 2.75
- Minimum GPA in German of 3.0

SELECTION PROCESS: A faculty committee reviews all applications and will select recipient based on academic merit.
TEXAS GERMAN ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP
- One scholarship of $500
Eligibility Requirements:
- Enrollment in at least one German language, culture, film or literature class during the 2023-24 academic year
- Preference will be given to students who have declared a major in the German concentration of the World Cultures and Literatures B.A. or have declared a minor in German or in German Area Studies
- Overall minimum GPA of 2.5
- Minimum GPA in German of 3.0

MAX FREUND AWARD
- This award of $100 recognizes outstanding academic performance in lower or upper division German language classes. Candidates are nominated by German faculty.
