Caribbean Studies Working Group

Mission

The mission of the Caribbean Study Group is to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Caribbean region's diverse cultures, histories, and socio-political landscapes. Through interdisciplinary study, research, and dialogue, the group aims to bridge cultural gaps, challenge stereotypes, and amplify Caribbean voices. We strive to create a collaborative space for scholars, students, and community members of the Greater Houston Area to explore the Caribbean's global impact and contribute to knowledge that supports sustainable and inclusive development within the region.

Vision

Our vision is to become a leading intellectual hub for Caribbean studies that promotes academic excellence and social engagement. By advancing Caribbean scholarship and advocating for regional issues, we aspire to build lasting partnerships within and beyond the Caribbean, creating a global network of informed advocates committed to cultural respect, equity, and social justice. We envision a world where Caribbean knowledge and perspectives are fully integrated into broader global conversations and educational systems. We also strive to create an academic space for the growing populations of Caribbean peoples in Houston.
