PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Earn 6 UH credits while you’re soaking in the culture of southern Spain! This unforgettable experience is brought to you by UH in collaboration with Centro MundoLengua—a top-notch Spanish language and culture school. With MundoLengua, you’ll experience immersive learning in Spanish, plus cultural excursions that will take your education beyond the classroom!

ACADEMICS THAT GO BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

You’ll get to level up your Spanish through courses like: 

  • SPAN 2311 - Intermediate Spanish I
  • SPAN 2312 - Intermediate Spanish II
  • SPAN 3301 - Spanish Oral Communication for Critical Thinking
  • SPAN 3302 - Advanced Spanish for Non-Heritage Learners

  • SPAN 2307 - Spanish for Heritage Learners I
  • SPAN 2308 - Spanish for Heritage Learners II
  • SPAN 3307 - Public Speaking in Spanish
  • SPAN 3308 - Written Communication for Hispanic Heritage Learners 

Advanced students can take SPAN4396 - Lengua, cultura y sociedad en España as well as a SPAN4398 - Independent study with Prof. López Otero, program director from UH. Classes are made out of UH students only and are held at the Facultad de Medicina (medical school) of the University of Cádiz, where you'll learn from local experts and experience Spanish life firsthand. Who knew learning Spanish could be this fun?

CULTURAL IMMERSION: MAKE MEMORIES, NOT JUST CREDITS

It’s not just about the classroom—you’ll be fully immersed in Spanish culture! Thanks to MundoLengua, you’ll experience Cádiz like a local with activities like:

- Welcome weekend in Seville with tapas and a tour of Giralda Tower and Seville Cathedral.
- Day trips to nearby gems like El Puerto de Santa María.
- Surfing, paddleboarding, and sailing in the Bay of Cádiz (yes, actual surfing!)
- A cooking workshop to perfect your Spanish cuisine skills.
- Visits to iconic spots like the Torre Tavira, Castillo de Santa Catalina, and Gran Teatro Falla.

REQUIREMENTS

If you complete 1000-level Spanish language courses by the end of May, you’re good to go! Remember that you can also take a placement test to move all the way up to 2000-level courses (or higher) and that some of your high school credits can count toward 1000-level Spanish courses. COST AND SCHOLARSHIPS

The entire program is estimated at $5,850 (airfare not included), but don’t stress—there are scholarships available! Apply for funding with the help of UH Learning Abroad. Reach out to them and follow their Instagram to receive updates on scholarship opportunities!
