The Third Annual Congress of Hispanic Studies with the theme of "Languages, Writings and Cultures In the New Political Arena" took place on April 28, 2017 at the Hilton-University of Houston Hotel. The congress was attended by Dr. Tillis, Dean of CLASS for the opening of the congress and later to give presentations on topics related to literature, linguistics and creative writing, with the participation of post-graduate students from University of Houston (The Department of Hispanic Studies and English Department), Rice University, and foreign students from Latin America. The congress was honored to receive as plenary presenters Dr. Bejarano, Regent's professor at New Mexico State University, who gave a presentation titled "Resistance Isn’t Always Loud: Counter-Narrative Stories From the Border" and Professor Benjamín Moreno Of the University of Guanajuato, together with the Mexican poet Minerva Reynosa who presented us with a recitation of poetry with visual and sound effects. In addition, a workshop entitled "Retórica procedimental y traducción" was conducted by Professor Moreno on the 27th and 29th of April. The event was organized by the Graduate Students' Organization of Hispanic Studies with the support of UH Activity Funding Board, Hispanic Studies, Spanish Creative Literature Program, Arte Público Press, and Special Collections at M.D. Anderson Library.

El Tercer Congreso Anual de Estudios Hispánicos con el tema de “Lenguas, escrituras y culturas en la nueva arena política” tuvo efecto el 28 de abril de 2017 en el Hotel Hilton-University of Houston. El congreso tuvo la presencia del Dr. Tillis, Decano de CLASS para la apertura del congreso para después dar paso a las presentaciones de temas relacionados con literatura, lingüística y escritura creativa, con la participación de estudiantes de pos-grado de University of Houston (departamento de Estudios Hispánicos e Inglés), Rice University y estudiantes extranjeros de Latinoamérica. El congreso tuvo el honor de recibir como presentadores plenarios a la Dra. Bejarano, Regent’s professor de New Mexico State University, quien dio una presentación titulada “Resistance Isn’t Always Loud: Counter-Narrative Stories From the Border” y al profesor Benjamín Moreno de la Universidad de Guanajuato, junto con la poeta mexicana Minerva Reynosa quienes nos presentaron una recitación de poesía con efectos visuales y de sonido. A demás se ofreció un taller titulado “Retórica procedimental y traducción” dirigida por el Prof. Moreno el 27 y 29 de abril. El evento fue organizado por la Organización de Estudiantes Graduados de Estudios Hispánicos con el apoyo de UH Activity Funding Board, Estudios Hispánicos, Programa de Literatura Creativa en Español, Arte Público Press, y Special Collections at M.D. Anderson Library.
