University Career Services welcomes two new leaders

Earlier this month, University Career Services introduced two staff members, Tiffany Bitting and Cynthia Olmedo, to new roles.

Tiffany Bitting, Associate Director

Over the past year, Tiffany’s dedication to outreach, expanding campus-wide partnerships, and promoting professional development opportunities for the career consortium has exemplified her passion for service to UH students, faculty, and staff. As the new associate director of UCS, Tiffany will continue to cultivate campus-wide partnerships by fostering relationships with faculty, staff, and student leaders from all academic programs. She is charged with effectively delivering comprehensive career services to UH students including bridging resources across divisions, and building networks with Exploratory Studies, Academic Advising Center, faculty members, university student organizations, and other key university entities to increase awareness of career development services.

Tiffany joined UCS in 2014 as a career counselor and liaison for the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and Pre-Health professions. During this time, Tiffany has directly impacted UCS in the areas of building partnerships and implementing student services programs at UH. Her successful leadership in the rebranding of UCS through targeted marketing and communications for campus-wide career fairs, and events such as Professional Discovery Week, NSM Career Fair Prep Week, Mock Interview Series, and Resume/CV skills series for the College of Pharmacy, have directly increased awareness of UCS services for freshmen through alumni.

Prior to UH, Tiffany’s diverse higher education experience since 2004 includes cultivating strategic partnerships with campus entities as well as providing leadership to advising teams. She is passionate about student success and is looking forward to expanding UCS’s awareness and building upon UH initiatives. Tiffany holds both a Master of Science in Counseling with an emphasis in Student Development in Higher Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Long Beach.

Cynthia Olmedo, Assistant Director

Cynthia joined the University Career Services (UCS) team as the assistant director of Alumni Career Services. She assists UCS leadership in providing career development assistance to UH alumni seeking assistance with their job search. Additionally, she will facilitate awareness of services with an emphasis on developing new employment opportunities for UH alumni in the greater Houston community.

Cynthia has over ten years of experience as an employment counselor improving workforce development opportunities within the Texas Workforce Commission agency including unemployment services, youth programs, and workforce training opportunities. She previously served as a career counselor for the University of Houston College of Technology, where she provided career services to enrolled students and alumni. Cynthia was very successful in this role; she increased career fair employer participation by 78 percent and increased student participation by 95 percent. She was also successful in collecting job and salary information and achieved a 67 percent response rate from the graduating students in the College of Technology.

At UH, Cynthia has actively participated in Cougar First Impressions, the PALS program, is an active member of UH Staff Council and serves as a Registered Student Organization advisor. She believes career counseling is a pertinent aspect of an individual’s professional development. It is her personal mission to help individuals discover their passion, practice their skills, and pursue their dreams.

Cynthia graduated with a Bachelor of Science from UH. As a UH student, she had the opportunity to live on-campus and work for the university as a switchboard operator. Cynthia later earned her Master of Business Administration and founded Initiatives for All (IFA), a non-profit organization guiding individuals in their pursuit of a college degree.
