UH now has two ways to apply for admission

Students may apply for admission via ApplyTexas or the Common Application.

August 1, 2017 -- The University of Houston has joined the Common Application. The Common Application is an undergraduate college admission application that applicants may use to apply to any of 700+ member colleges and universities in 48 states and the District of Columbia, as well as in Canada, China, and many European countries. Last year, more than 1 million students used the Common Application.

“The Office of Admissions has worked hard for the last 12 months to elevate the University of Houston’s attractiveness and applicant pool. In addition to implementing more innovative recruiting practices, UH Admissions views joining the Common Application as an opportunity to further attract highly qualified applicants from around the world,” said Mardell Maxwell, executive director of Admissions.

The Common Application is one of two ways to apply to UH for freshmen and transfer admission. UH has no preference to which application is used. Submit one – and only one – application per admissions cycle.

Reasons why the Common Application might be right for students:

  • The Common Application is accepted at the greatest number of colleges and universities around the world.
  • Applicants may submit the same Common Application to as many colleges and universities as they like.
  • Many counselors and teachers are already familiar with the Common Application and, based on their experience, can provide guidance to students who wish to apply with it.
  • Many counselors and teachers have previously completed Common Application forms for recommendations or transcripts, and thus already have online accounts.

The Common Application and ApplyTexas application are available today, August 1, on the Admissions website.
