Carlos was nominated by the Director for the Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life (CFSL), Ja’Nelle King, after she was impressed with his willingness to assist her with events and his openness to help even after work hours. In his normal duties, Carlos oversees the room reservations and assists with room requests and event planning at the Student Centers. However, in Ja’Nelle’s experience with Carlos, he went above and beyond those duties to ensure that the CFSL events ran smoothly.
His impact truly shone during the Houston Panhellenic Council's (HPC) Primary Recruitment Events, a major event at the CFSL spanning four days, involving six distinct chapters with diverse needs and requests. This is an event where 6 separate chapters have separate and unique needs and requests both before and during the event, which takes place over 4 days (Thursday through Sunday). With the Student Centers operating under limited staffing, Carlos did not hesitate to step in wherever needed, ensuring seamless execution of the event. From handling setup to managing audiovisual needs and reservations, Carlos's dedication was seen and appreciated.
Carlos did not limit his efforts just to the event days. He consistently went the extra mile, moving tables, adjusting arrangements, and offering support for countless events within the Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life. Even when he was not physically present, his dedication was visible through the smoothly running events. He was available during and after work hours, even on a Sunday at 7 in the morning when an unexpected building issue arose.
"I really appreciate all he did for HPC and CFLS during this major event,” Ja’Nelle noted in her nomination, “and also how he continues to help fill the gaps for the Student Centers and provides exceptional customer service while doing it.”
Congratulations again to Carlos on being awarded the Division of Student Affairs November 2023 Golden Paw Employee of the Month.
