Michael Barnes, Ph.D. ('95) is an associate teaching professor in the Honors College. He is also an Honors College alumnus, graduating in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in classical studies and English. Barnes earned his doctorate in classical languages and literature at the University of Missouri. His areas of expertise are Greek and Roman epic poetry and Hellenistic literature and culture. He is the recipient of several teaching awards, including the Matthew B. and Tamara Steele Award for Teaching Excellence in 2019. Barnes designs and leads the Honors College’s summer study abroad program in Greece, “A Greek Odyssey.” He teaches every semester in the Human Situation course in the Honors College.
