Current Pursuits
In May 2023, I earned my MA in Philosophy at the University of Houston. Beginning Fall 2023, I will be a PhD student in the department of philosophy at the University of Michigan.
Undergraduate Research Projects
During the HERE program, I learned about the fundamentals of research. I participated in intensive seminars, discussions, and presentations on how to put together a research question, how to read academic articles, various research methodologies across disciplines, and how to present one’s findings to one’s research community. I began the 2020 Mellon Research Scholars program and chose to write on moral education. I wondered about its value and its resources for making sense of the way we experience and shape our own character.
Favorite Undergraduate Research Memory
One of my favorite memories from the Mellon Research Scholars program was bonding with my cohort during the summer bootcamp. I made lifelong friends through Mellon’s programming.
What do you value most about your undergraduate research experience?
Before HERE and Mellon, I felt at a loss trying to navigate academic spaces. The people I met through these programs and their belief in my capacities and potential set me on the path for success that I’m enjoying now.
How did undergraduate research prepare you for what you are currently doing?
Undergraduate research taught me how to present my work and how to craft a compelling personal narrative surrounding my research and future goals.
Advice for Students Interested in Undergraduate Research
Participate in as many programs as you can! I wouldn’t be in the position I am in today without the early support and training I received from the folks at OURMA.
