Resident Advisor

As valuable members of the SHRL team, the RA is responsible for serving as a positive role model and resource to students who live in Bayou Oaks, Cougar Village I, Cougar Village II, Cougar Place, Moody Towers, The Quad, and University Lofts. Under the supervision of a Residential Life Coordinator (RLC), RAs work within these communities to support student success measures by cultivating belonging and engagement, providing academic support, and facilitating wellbeing. RA Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate or graduate student at time of application. Undergraduates must stay enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits and a maximum of 18 credits. Graduates must stay enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits and a maximum of 12 credits.
- Have and sustain a 2.75 minimum semester and cumulative GPA.
- Be in and sustain good standing with SHRL and the University of Houston (UH) academically, financially, and in conduct.
- Lived on campus for one semester (or other approved similar experience).
Resident Advisor (RA) Position Requirements:
- Commit to serving in the position for the full academic year, fall 2026 to spring 2027 (December graduates are ineligible to apply).
- Sign an on-campus Housing Agreement ($150 agreement fee before August 2026 start date).
- Understand and agree that RAs cannot hold any additional paid on-campus position or paid leadership role with UH while employed as an RA.
- Attend mandatory staff meetings every Wednesday from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. throughout the fall and spring semesters.
- Attend mandatory training Aug. 10-22, 2026, and Jan. 11-15, 2027.
- Serve on an on-call rotation, including during breaks and holidays.
Mandatory Information Sessions
All RA applicants must attend one information session. These sessions introduce the RA role and will help you decide if the position is a good fit for you. During these sessions you will have the opportunity to ask questions regarding the application process and position.
- Both in-person and virtual sessions will be available. There will be no dial-in by phone option for virtual sessions.
- Attendance will be taken at each session. Attendance will close 5 minutes after the session begins; late arrivals will not be counted.
- There are no exceptions to this requirement, including technology issues. To ensure flexibility, please prioritize attending an earlier session.

RA Application Process Timeline
- Sep. 26, 2025: New RA application opens. To apply, log in to AccessUH and click the
myHousing icon.
- Dec. 11, 2025: New RA application closes at 11:59 p.m.
- Feb. 5, 2026: You will receive an email either inviting you to interview for the position
or informing you that we are unable to offer you an interview at this time.
- Feb. 5, 2026, to Feb. 10, 2025: If you receive an interview offer, sign up for your
in-person interview date and time (instructions will be provided in your interview
invitation email).
- Week of Feb. 16, 2026: Interviews will take place. These interviews will last approximately
one hour and 30 minutes. Please note, failing to attend your interview will result
in removal from the RA selection process.
- March 12, 2026: Decision letters are sent to applicants via email.
