University Information Technology maintains a state of constant readiness

While hurricane season is upon us, University Information Technology maintains a state of constant readiness to prevent any disruption to information technology services. The UH Computing Center has full back up power generation, storm window shutters on all windows and doorways to protect from damage by high wind projectiles, backups of critical systems are located both onsite and offsite to ensure services can be restored in no matter the circumstances,  and a secondary data center is maintained outside of the Houston area. The UIT Continuity of Operations Plan requires annual preparedness activities that are completed by June 1st of each year, an annual test of the plan currently scheduled for later this month, and a pre-defined tropical weather response plan for dealing with a tropical weather threat.

Each College and Division should have an Information Resources Management (IRM) Plan that includes the plan for IT Service Continuity. For those units that maintain their own services apart from the enterprise services provided by UIT, now is the time to review the IT Service Continuity in the IRM plan and make any necessary adjustments.
