Kalliope Vlahos

Assistant Professor, Technical Direction

Kalliope (Kali) Vlahos received her BA in Technical Theatre from Kent State University and her MFA in Theatre Technology and Lighting Design from the University of Arizona. 

Kali joined the University of Houston in the Fall of 2022 as the Assistant Professor of Technical Direction for the School of Theatre and Dance to continue her fifteen year long career in higher education.  

As an educator, she endeavors to create an accessible learning environment within the classroom, rehearsals, and in the design and construction process. By doing so, Kali strives to prepare each student for the literal and the figurative “stages” of life.  To that end, Kali has developed curriculum for both the undergraduate and graduate levels of study, and has past students thriving in various theatrical fields across the nation. 

Nationally, Kali has worked on over 150 productions, winning multiple awards through organizations such as the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF).  Highlights include collaborating with world renowned director Ping Chong and lighting/scenic designer Randy Ward on an original production titled Blind Ness, which toured to the Off-Broadway Theatre La MaMa E.T.C. and designing lights for The Icarus Project, choreographed by the internationally renowned Chug-Fu Chang, for The Cleveland Playhouse.
