The College of Pharmacy Core Lab provides local researchers with equipment and services described below:
BD FACSMelody Cell Sorter & Flow Cytometer
The FACSMelody Cell Sorter is a three laser Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorter configured for 8 colors as follows:
| Lasers | Filters |
|---|---|
| 488 nm (Blue) | 488/15, 527/32, 700/54 |
| 561 nm (Yellow-Green) | 582/15, 613/18, 697/58, 783/56 |
| 640 nm (Red) | 660/10, 783/56 |
The cytometer is capable of 34,000 drops/second. Sorting can be two-way using 1.5, 2.0, and 5.0 ml tubes, or one-way using 6, 24, 48, 96, or 384 well plates or a microscope slide. Collection tubes, plates, or slides can be maintained at specified warm or cool temperatures by use of a coupled water recirculation unit.
Confocal Microscopy
The core houses a Leica SP8 STED Confocal Microscope with HP Z4 G4 WorkStation. This super resolution platform allows detection of features down to 20 nm. Our core lab also houses an Olympus DSU fluorescent microscope.
Histology Lab
Our Histology lab is equipped with a Leica CM1850 Cryostat, Leica Microtome, Leica TP1020 Tissue Processor, a Tissue Tek Embedding Station, Varistain 24-4 automated slide stainer, and a slide warmer.
IVIS XRMS
In vivo imaging platform for rodents and small mammals. Capabilities include X-ray, luminescence, and fluorescence.
Vevo 3100 Small Animal Ultrasound
The Vevo 3100 is available with 5 different ultrasound probes for use with organisms ranging in size from zebrafish to rabbits.
BioRad QX200 Droplet Digital PCR System
We house a new BioRad QX200 Droplet Digital PCR System capable of absolute quantitation of DNA and RNA with Eva-Green or probe based system capability.
Liquid Chromatography coupled Mass Spectrometry (LCMS)
The core currently houses two Liquid chromatography coupled Sciex 5500 triple quadrupole mass spectrometers and similarly coupled Sciex 3200. Users can be trained to use the instruments or samples can be run by an experience LCMS technician. Users of this core have developed a variety of assays for measuring small molecule drugs and metabolites in a variety of human and animal tissues. The core also provides assay development services.
600 MHz NMR
The College of Pharmacy Laboratory Core has a JEOL 600 MHz Spectrometer with broadband Z-gradient high resolution ROYAL NMR liquid probe and runs with Delta V5.3 Software. The system performs high resolution 1D and 2D liquids experiments with and without gradients. Sample automation includes, 24 sample rack for unattended operation, automated probe-tuning, gradient shimming, and variable temperature control. Software includes full non-linear sampling (NUS) and processing, and analysis modules ranging from kinetics and T1/T2 analyses to calculation of self-diffusion coefficients.
Sartorius Octet Biolayer Interferometer
This device allows for real-time affinity and kinetic characterization of molecular interactions between a variety of substrates ranging in size from small molecules to proteins, and even cells.
AKTA Pure
The AKTA Pure is a Chromatography system used for small scale protein purification. The AKTA Pure has several functions including: Affinity Chromatography, Size Exclusion Chromatography, and Ion Exchange Chromatography.
Anton Paar Microwave Reactor
The Anton Paar Microwave reactor helps greatly expedite small scale chemical reactions. Using the concepts of microwave irradiation, long and low-yielding reactions may be brought to completion much sooner. The camera attachment also allows users to physically view the reaction during the run process.
