Personal Statement
Vanessa Shippard, MSW, is the Field Coordinator of the Child Welfare Education Project (CWEP), providing instructional support for CWEP students placed at CPS. For 30 years, she worked at the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services in the greater Houston area and 12 outlying counties. After retirement, Ms. Shippard worked for DPFS as a contract worker, consulting staff on high-profile cases for over two years. She has participated in statewide initiatives working with the DFPS Board and the judicial system to develop skills for interviewing children and adults, family assessment, child placement, and other child welfare curriculum and service building. She graduated from the Graduate College of Social Work (GCSW) in 2003. From 2007 to 2013, Ms. Shippard was the CWEP Field Coordinator for six years. After working in the school district as a school social worker, she returned to serve as the CWEP Field Coordinator in August 2022. Ms. Shippard is a member of the GCSW Alumni Board.
