Cougar Open
An International Wheelchair Tennis Tournament Hosted by the University of Houston for over 10 years
The Cougar Open is an annual wheelchair tennis tournament sanctioned by both the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the United States Tennis Association (USTA). Held in Houston, Texas, and started in 2016, this prestigious event draws top athletes from across the country and around the globe.
Players compete at both professional and recreational levels, representing not only themselves but also their home countries on the international stage. The Cougar Open offers a platform for world-class competition, sportsmanship, and the celebration of adaptive athletic excellence.
USTA Level 2 is open to coed A,B,C,D & Junior Divisions
ITF 3 Series is open to Men’s, Womens, Quad, & Junior Divisons

2016 Cougar Open
Adaptive Athletics at the University of Houston hosted its first United States Tennis Association (USTA)-sanctioned wheelchair tennis tournament October 28-30, 2016. The event featured 20 players in the A, B, C, and Quad divisions competing in singles and doubles matches. We would like to thank the athletes, student coordinators, community volunteers, USTA officials, corporate sponsors, and individual donors for making the inaugural UH Cougar Open an overwhelming success!
