Faculty Led Program in Amman, Jordan
The UH in Jordan program is a three credit hour, two week long summer learning abroad course, offered through Modern and Classical Languages and also cross-listed in the department of History. Entitled “Contemporary Jordan: History, Promise, and Challenges”, this course is designed to provide a comprehensive and interdisciplinary introduction to the Middle East region. Participating students will earn 3 credits for either ARAB 3397 or HIST 4393. The course will be housed in and taught at the state of the art Sijal Institute, a UH partner institution in Amman, Jordan. Coursework and field trips will explore the rich history of Jordan and examine how this has shaped the issues fundamental to understanding the contemporary Arabic speaking world, its culture, language, politics and the complex relationship with the West. Students will also gain a basic proficiency in routine spoken Arabic through daily introductory classes. No prior knowledge of the Arabic language is required. Educational excursions in Jordan will include Petra, the Dead Sea, Wadi Rum, Aqaba, and many more. Please find the full information below:
