Application Materials
Applicants must submit the following application and materials to be considered for admission into the M.Ed. in Counseling program.
Main Application
The following materials should be submitted through the ApplyWeb application:

Write a statement of interest that addresses the following:
- Understanding of the counseling profession: Demonstrate your knowledge of the counseling field, including core values, responsibilities, and the role of a counselor in supporting mental health and well-being.
- Motivation for becoming a counselor: Describe what inspired you to pursue a career in counseling. Highlight any personal, academic, or professional experiences that influenced your decision.
- Preferred populations to work with: Share which populations you are most interested in working with in the future (e.g., children, adolescents, families, veterans, individuals with trauma, etc.) and explain why.
- Future career goals and plans: Outline your professional goals after completing your counseling degree. This may include settings you hope to work in (e.g., schools, clinics, private practice) or specific areas of specialization.
Format:
- Maximum of 2 pages, double-spaced
- Times New Roman font (12 point)
- 1-inch margins
- APA 7th edition preferred (if citations are used)
- Clearly label each section or use paragraph transitions to ensure all required topics are addressed.
- $50 for domestic applicants
- $80 for international applicants
All graduate applicants, regardless of citizenship status, must demonstrate proficiency in English to obtain admission to UH. Many applicants meet this requirement based on earning an undergraduate degree in the United States and do not need to submite documentation beyond their transcript. Interview
An interview is required for admission into the program. The admissions committee will notify the applicant directly regarding the date, time and scope.
Admissions Decisions
