Alexander Nordahl, Mariela Rea, Julia Dai, Laura Rincon-Bianchi, Andrea Cubillos, Sarah Imran, Stella McClure, Karla Rodriguez

Andrea Cubillos is a senior at the University of Houston majoring in political science and minoring in law, values, and policy.

As a first generation American and college student, Andrea is passionate about education and civil rights.  Andrea first gained internship experience in the Mayor's Office of Education in fall 2021 through the Civic Houston Internship Program. In this role, she utilized policy research and writing skills in order to complete weekly projects for the Child Friendly Cities Initiative.  She also helped guide Houston's youth in the local action planning process by participating in several youth intergenerational workshops.

Andrea is working in the office of Congresswoman Veronica Escobar.

Julia Dai is a junior at the University of Houston pursuing a dual degree in political science and business management.

Julia first gained experience in the campaign offices of Dan McCready and Jeff Jackson in her home state of North Carolina, primarily working in voter outreach and finance analysis.  In spring 2021, she interned with the City of Houston's Office of Emergency Management through the Civic Houston Internship Program.  In this role, she drafted and updated emergency plans that will guide the city through 2025 and gained an understanding of the important role that preparation plays in emergency operations.

Julia is working in the office of Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher.

Sarah Imran is a junior at the University of Houston pursuing a degree in political science with a double minor in economics and law, values, and policy.

Sarah first gained experience in public service and project management through an internship with the Mayor's Office of Complete Communities from spring 2020 through fall 2021.  In this role, she worked with various local partners and city officials to deliver community identified projects.  Sarah also was an intern for the Youth Advocates Program, where she delivered multiple events directed at health equity for youth.  She also worked to increase voter turnout and registration as a Civic Influencer Fellow.

Sarah is working in the office of Congressman Al Green.

Stella McClure is a senior at the University of Houston pursuing a dual degree in political science and strategic communication.

Stella gained experience volunteering for the non-profit Rise, lobbying for the passage of a sexual assault survivors' right law in Texas.  In fall 2020, she participated in the Civic Houston Internship Program and worked in the Mayor's Office of Complete Communities, working under the Houston Financial Empowerment Center's program manager.  Additionally, Stella has worked with the Women Whistleblowers campaign in Houston as a social media intern. 

Stella is working in the office of Congressman Marc Veasey.

Alexander Nordahl is a senior at the University of Houston pursuing a degree in political science with a minor in national security studies.

Alexander first gained experience with the Texas House of Representatives Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence, where he helped Chairwoman Nicole Collier and her staff with interim responsibilities.  During the summer of 2020, Alexander joined the Colin Allred for Congress Campaign, where he wrote an op-ed also led volunteer phone bank training sessions. He is most recently coming off a summer 2021 casework internship with Congressman Lloyd Doggett, where he helped take care of constituent issues.

Alexander is working in the office of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.

Mariela Rea is a junior at the University of Houston majoring in political science and Spanish.

Mariela has extensive internship experience, having worked with BakerRipley in spring 2021 and Commissioner Adrian Garcia in fall 2021 through the Civic Houston Internship Program.  She was also selected as part of the inaugural cohort of the Harris Fellows program in summer 2021 where she worked full-time for Commissioner Garcia's office.  In this role, she worked under the government affairs and community relations supervisor, drafting letters and assisting at community events.  Mariela has also volunteered with Students Together Assisting Refugees, the Houston Food Bank, and local churches to help underserved communities.

Mariela is working in the office of the Thurgood Marshall Institute.

Laura Rincon-Bianchi is a junior at the University of Houston pursuing a degree in political science with a minor in national security studies.

Laura gained professional experience in fall 2019, working in the Mayor's Office of Education through the Civic Houston Internship Program.  She also interned with Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee's office in 2021.  In this role, she worked alongside caseworkers on immigration, passport, and visa issues, as well as representing the office at community events and meetings.  Additionally, Laura has interned on numerous campaigns in the Houston area, including Mayor Turner's re-election campaign in 2019.

Laura is working in the office of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.

Karla Rodriguez is a post-baccalaureate student at the University of Houston.  She graduated in fall 2021 with a dual degree in political science and history with a minor in Spanish.

Karla has extensive internship experience, having participated in the Civic Houston Internship Program several times.  In fall 2020, she interned with State Representative Mary Ann Perez before working with BakerRipley in spring 2021.  She was selected as part of the initial cohort of Harris Fellows in summer 2021, working in the office of the Harris County Elections Administrator.  In this role, she worked in community outreach for voter registration.  Additionally, she has volunteered on several campaigns in the Houston area.

Karla is working in the office of Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia.
