Honors College Board Member Martin Cominsky Retires from Interfaith Ministries IM Board Statement on the Retirement of Martin B. Cominsky, President and CEO Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston December 2024
On behalf of the Board of Directors of Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston (IM) community, we are announcing the upcoming retirement of Martin B. Cominsky, who will step down from his role on December 31, 2024, after nearly a decade of service.
Martin’s leadership over the past ten years has been transformative for our organization. His commitment to our mission has resulted in the growth and expansion of Interfaith Ministries. The organization’s budget has quadrupled, and its staff has doubled, enabling IM to serve the diverse communities of Greater Houston more effectively.
He spearheaded the development efforts for three major new building projects including the Brigitte and Bashar Kalai Plaza of Respect honoring the lives of the Three Amigos, Rabbi Samuel Karff, Archbishop Joseph Fiorenza and Pastor William A. Lawson. He also led the charge to create and expand services for homebound seniors in Houston and Galveston County, providing critical meals and support to those clients who need it most.
Martin was particularly instrumental during the challenging years of the COVID-19 pandemic. His ability to navigate those unprecedented times with resilience allowed us to continue our essential work, even as our community faced significant hardships. Moreover, under his direction, Interfaith Ministries responded to the exponential growth in legal refugee resettlement, providing vital support to New Americans in Houston and helping them find their footing in a new country.
At the heart of Martin’s work has always been his deep personal commitment to building understanding among people of all faiths, and those of no particular faith, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone. His belief in the power of service and community has led to the engagement of college students through SERVE HOUSTON AmeriCorps, as well as the mobilization of thousands of volunteers through Volunteer Houston, who have dedicated their time and energy to causes that make our city stronger and more compassionate.
We extend our thanks and gratitude for his leadership and dedication to our mission. We wish him all the best as he embarks on this next chapter of his life.
With Appreciation,
The Board of Directors
