Medical Benefits with HealthSelect

Medical Benefits with HealthSelect are administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. There are two options to choose from for benefits. The HealthSelcte of Texas or Consumer Directed HealthSelect Plan.

  • Consumer Directed HealthSelect Plan This option may be a good choice for people who generally have low (or very high) health expenses, can afford to pay for medical and pharmacy expenses out of pocket until the deductible is met, want the state’s tax-free HSA contribution, or prefer not to get referrals for specialty care.
  • HealthSelect of Texas Plan This plan may be ideal for people who want to keep their out-of-pocket costs low, don't mind getting referrals for specialty care, or are willing to pay higher premiums for dependents or part-time employees.

Prescription Drug Coverage

The HelathSelect insurance plan includes coverage for prescription drugs. Express Scripts Inc. administer the HealthSelect Prescription Program for both Healthselect of Texas and Consumer Directd HealthSelect plans.

Dental Insurance

Delta Dental administers the dental plans. You can enroll in one of the following plans: State of Texas Dental Choice Plan or Delta Care USA DMHO.

Vison Insurance Coverage

Your HealthSelect Insurance plan offers a discount vision program and covers some vision and eye health services, including an annual eye exam and treatment for disease. HealthSelect offers routine eye exams with a copay.

State of Texas Vison, administered by EyeMed Vison Care, LLC covers an eye exam, contact lens fitting, and other services.

University Eye Institute

HelathSelect members who use the HealthSelect discounted vison program can maximize their benefits by receiving services from the University Eye Institute.

Optional Life Insurance

The life insurance is administered by Securian Financial Group, Inc. If you enroll in the HealthSelect medical plan, you are automatically enrolled in basic life insurance of $5,000 and $5,000 in Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage at no cost to you.

You can elect to enroll in Optional Term Life Insurance for 1 or 2 times your annual salary during your first 30 days of employment, without the need to provide evidence of insurability (EOI). If you wish to apply for Optional Term Life Insurance for 3 or 4 times your annual salary, you will need to provide EOI, which requires you to submit health information.

Dependent Term Life Insurance

For an additional premium, you can enroll your eligible dependents in Dependent Term Life Insurance. The plan includes $5,000 in term life with $5,000 in AD&D for each covered dependent.

Voluntary Accident & Dismemberment Insurance

Voluntary Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D)  Voluntary Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance provides additional financial support in the event of an accidental death or injury. You can elect coverage amounts up to $200,000, in increments of $5,500.

Disability Insurance

Texas Income Protection administers disability insurance. This coverage provides a portion of your income after the applicable waiting period has been met, and you have been ill or injured for 14 consecutive calendar days.

TexFlex Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)

Inspira Financial is the administrator of the TexFlex Flexible Spending Plans. Participating in one or more of the TexFlex flexible spending accounts (FSAs) allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars from your paycheck to cover eligible out-of-pocket health care and dependent care expenses.
