The Humana Institute Graduate fellowship in Health care (HIGH) is a year-long opportunity for graduate students passionate about health care innovation. This fellowship provides an immersive experience where students explore the dynamic intersections of academia and health care through a focused research project on health-related social needs, value-based care, and healthcare outcomes. The program offers a unique opportunity for graduate students to conduct focused research, receive mentorship from industry experts and faculty members, and contribute to the advancement of evidence-based health care. At the end of the year, students are expected to present their findings at a regional/national conference and co-author a white paper and/or journal manuscript.

Key Features

Partnership with Industry Leaders: Throughout the year, graduate fellows will collaborate closely with an industry mentor within the health care sector, gaining valuable insights into industry trends and challenges.

Guidance from UH Faculty: Each fellow will be paired with a faculty member from the Humana Institute, receiving personalized research mentorship throughout the fellowship duration.

Year-long Research Project: Fellows will engage in a comprehensive research project spanning the academic year. This project will focus on addressing critical issues in health care delivery, technology, policy, or another relevant area, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative solutions.

Funding Opportunity: Fellows will receive $18 an hour. Expected hours are 10-15 hours each week.

Opportunities to Publish Peer-Reviewed Manuscripts: Fellows will have the opportunity to contribute to peer-reviewed publications, showcasing their research findings and advancing knowledge in the field of health care.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Enrollment in a graduate program at the University of Houston.
  • Full-time enrollment status
  • Active participation in regular meetings with both UH faculty and industry mentors.

  • Write a one page essay on ‘The Role of Interprofessional Collaboration in Improving Patient Outcomes’. This essay should include citations.
