UHCOP's 2010-20 Mean NAPLEX First-time Pass Rate Ranks 4th in Nation, 1st in Texas

April 29 — The University of Houston College of Pharmacy's 11-year mean first-time pass rate of 97.9% on the North American Pharmacy Licensure Examination (NAPLEX) ranks fourth in the nation among accredited U.S. peer institutions – and first among Texas peer institutions – according to calculations of NAPLEX results from 2010 to 2020 by the website ClinCALC.com.

Developed and administered by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), the "NAPLEX measures a candidate’s knowledge of the practice of pharmacy" and "is just one component of the licensure process and is used by the boards of pharmacy as part of their assessment of a candidate’s competence to practice as a pharmacist."

The college’s 2010-2020 mean pass rate is less than 1 percentage point behind the next highest institution and less than 2 percentage points behind the highest institution overall for the same time period.

"It's a bit of a cliché, but it truly does take a village to provide exceptional patient care: from our faculty and preceptors who diligently work to ensure our students have the knowledge and skills to uphold the standards of our profession to the students who pour their hearts and minds into every challenge to prepare themselves for careers focused on improving the health of our communities," said UHCOP Dean F. Lamar Pritchard, Ph.D., R.Ph.
