Houston Program Honors Ginsburg

UHCOP Alumna, National Pharmacy Leader Recognized with Roger Anderson Leadership Award

June 27 — The Houston Program in Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership recently honored UHCOP alumna Diane Ginsburg, Ph.D., M.S., R.Ph., FASHP, as the 2022 Roger W. Anderson Leadership Award recipient.

A clinical professor in the Pharmacy Practice Division, associate dean for Healthcare Partnerships, and G.D. Searle Endowed Fellow in Pharmacy at the University of Texas at Austin (UT), College of Pharmacy, Ginsburg was recognized at The Houston Program's annual RWA Leadership Celebration June 23 at the college.

The award honors the continued legacy of Roger W. Anderson, Dr.P.H., FASHP, through recognition of influential leaders associated with The Houston Program. Awardees are recognized for their significant contributions to the future of pharmacy through leadership, research, and dedication to the growth of future pharmacy leaders and the profession.

Launched in 2009, The Houston Program is a concurrent two-year M.S./PGY1-PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership program to train the next-generation of pharmacy leaders and innovators. The collaborative program comprises TMC member institutions UHCOP, Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, Harris Health System, Houston Methodist Hospital, Memorial Hermann Health System, Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Texas Children's Hospital and The University of Texas-MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Ginsburg completed her B.S. in Pharmacy at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and M.S. at the UHCOP. She was the first resident to complete a two-year ASHP-accredited residency in hospital pharmacy administration at The Methodist Hospital (now Houston Methodist Hospital) in the Texas Medical Center. She received her Ph.D. degree in higher education administration and leadership in the College of Education at UT.

Ginsburg has been active with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), including serving as on the national board of directors and as national president, and as chair of the board of directors for the ASHP Research and Education Foundation. Inducted as a fellow of ASHP in 1998, she is co-editor of Infectious Disease Pharmacotherapy Self-Assessment and co-author/co-editor of ASHP’s Preceptor’s Handbook for Pharmacists. Ginsburg also is a past president of the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists (TSHP) and TSHP Research & Education Foundation.

She has received several honors and awards, including the 2005 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and is a 2016 recipient of the Texas Ex Students Association Texas Ten Award recognizing the 10 most talented and inspiring professors at UT.

Ginsburg is internationally known for her work on ethics and the legal and regulatory aspects of pharmacy and healthcare.

In addition to the award presentation to and keynote address by Ginsburg, the event – sponsored by Atlas Health – also included recognition of The Houston Program's 2022 graduating class, transition of first-year residents to their second year, and welcome to the incoming class of 2024.
