Managed Care Medalists
UHCOP Students, Faculty and Alumni Earn Presentation Medals at AMCP's 27th Annual Meeting & Expo April 7-10 in San Diego
UH College of Pharmacy students, faculty and alumni brought home silver and bronze medals for their research presentations at the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy's 27th Annual Meeting & Expo April 7-10 in San Diego.
The following projects were recognized at the meeting:
Silver Medal - "Development of Prescription Medication Adherence Prediction Tool (RxAPT) to Predict Nonadherence to Oral Antidiabetic Drugs," authored by Pharmaceutical Health Outcomes and Policy (PHOP) alumna and current Ph.D. student Shivani K. Mhatre, M.S. ('11); Shubhada Sansgiry, Ph.D., statistical analyst at Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center and instructor at Baylor College of Medicine; UHCOP faculty members Sujit S. Sansgiry, Ph.D., and Marc L. Fleming, Ph.D.; and alumnus Omar Serna, Pharm.D. ('08), BCACP, Cigna Healthspring clinical pharmacy manager;
Bronze - "Physician Perception of Medication Adherence in a Cohort of Medicare Advantage Plans in Texas," authored by Amanda Winters, Pharm.D., Cigna Healthspring PGY1 pharmacy resident; alumna Tara Esse, Pharm.D. ('09), BCACP, Cigna Healthspring clinical pharmacist; Serna; PHOP alumna and Ph.D. student Archita Bhansali, M.S. ('13); and Sansgiry.
This is the second consecutive year UHCOP researchers have medaled at the AMCP meeting. In April 2014, PHOP alumna and current Ph.D. student Ruta Sawant, M.S. ('14), and Sansgiry received a bronze medal for their presentation on "Communicating Risk of Medication Side Effects: Assessment of Risk Perception Using Plain Language Combined with Numeric Frequencies."
