UHCOP Recognizes Ambulatory Care, Community and Clinical Preceptors for Excellence in Experiential Training
Pharmacy preceptors play an essential role in pharmacy students' transition from the classroom to the practice site and their development into one of the most trusted professions.
At the Class of 2017 Graduation Awards Reception May 10, UH College of Pharmacy honored several individual preceptors as well as a practice site for excellence in Pharm.D. student precepting during the 2016-17 academic year.
Recipients are selected by a committee of faculty members and the Office of Experiential Programs based on student nominations of the preceptor and site and evaluations of the preceptors and sites by the students.
This year's honorees are:
- Community Preceptor of the Year Award — John Yoo, Pharm.D. ('03), pharmacist-in-charge at the Compounding Shop Pharmacy in Houston;
- Ambulatory Care Preceptor of the Year Award — Ashley Burns, Pharm.D. ('12), Patient Care Service Manager for the Houston Division of the Albertsons Cos.;
- Institutional Patient Care Preceptor of the Year Award — Megan Anderson, Pharm.D., BCPS, clinical pharmacist with Memorial Hermann Healthcare System;
- Hospital Pharmacy Preceptor of the Year Award — Mallory Gessner Wharton, Pharm.D. ('11), M.S. ('13), BCPS, director of Pharmacy at Kingwood Medical Center;
- Health Systems Pharmacy of the Year Award — Houston Methodist Hospital; and
- Faculty Preceptor of the Year Award — Matthew Wanat, Pharm.D, BCPS, BCCCP, UHCOP clinical assistant professor.
