Delta Delta Chapter Recognized as 'Top Performer' at Kappa Psi Fraternity's National Meeting Aug. 1-5 in Florida
UH College of Pharmacy's Delta Delta Chapter of the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity secured recognition as a "Top Performing" chapter at the organization's Grand Council Convention Aug. 1-5 in Naples, Fla.
The "Top Performing" recognition was provided to chapters completing at least 85 percent of the national chapter report requirements. Among the chapter's activities during the prior year included raising $1,000 for the American Red Cross from the annual Mr. Pharmacy Pageant proceeds, participating in community health fairs, and recruiting potential donors for and raising awareness of the National Bone Marrow Registry.
Among individual honors, Chapter Regent (President) Rohan Dwivedi was nominated by the chapter for the national Frank H. Eby Award — the organization's highest individual honor — and chapter Faculty Co-adivsor Louis Williams, Ph.D., UHCOP associate professor, received a Grand Council Deputy Certificate of Excellence for his support of the chapter.
Dwivedi, who serves as Southwest Province Secretary, said he was inspired by the knowledge and connections he gained at the meeting, despite the chapter not being able to capitalize at the national level on their province-level "chapter of the year" win in March.
"GCC was a very rewarding and eye-opening experience for me," Not only was I able to get insight on the workings of other chapters, but I was also able to fundraise for our chapter by managing our inventory and selling things that have been in storage for the last couple of years.
In related news, the Houston Graduate Chapter of Kappa Psi — composed of pharmacy graduates of UH and Texas Southern University — was recognized as 10th Best Graduate Chapter in the nation at the GCC. Helming the graduate chapter for 2016-17 was UHCOP alumna Erin Chartier, Pharm.D. ('15), who currently serves as Southwest Province Satrap (President) after being elected to the post in March.
