Presentation at UH Quantum Initiative Kick-off

Riding a wave of interest sparked by the recent Texas Quantum Summit held at Texas A&M University in September, the University of Houston Division of Research hosted a kick-off meeting for the UH Quantum Initiative on November 5.

The earlier summit brought together eight universities from across the state to advance quantum computing and related technologies, identifying four strategic focus areas: Quantum Computing, Quantum Materials and Devices, Quantum Networks, and Workforce Development. At the UH kick-off, Vice President for Research Claudia Neuhauser convened UH experts and members of the research community for a morning-long session featuring presentations and discussions on leveraging the University’s current strengths and exploring areas for strategic growth in response to these topics.

At the event, professors Rubem Mondaini and Albert Chang delivered insights on Quantum Computing, Liangzi Deng covered Quantum Materials and Devices, and professors Lei Fan and Jiming Bao presented on Quantum Networks and Communication. A panel discussion then explored workforce development challenges and opportunities, alongside strategies for positioning UH as a leader in quantum innovation.

“The state’s convergence on Quantum technologies presents a transformative opportunity for UH to build on our existing expertise and offer something unique to this initiative,” said VPR Neuhauser. “DOR hopes to foster collaborations that accelerate progress in these critical areas.”

The UH Quantum Initiative aims to align University resources with statewide and national efforts, positioning UH at the forefront of quantum research and development. Learn more at uh.edu/research/quantum.
