    University of Houston Engineers Unveil AI Model for Predicting, Controlling Pandemic Spread

    A team of engineers at the University of Houston has published a study in the journal Nature on how international air travel has influenced the spread of COVID-19 around the world.By using a newly developed AI tool, the team identified hotspots of infection linked to air traffic, pinpointing key areas that significantly contribute to disease transmission.

    Fort Bend County Housing, Mental Health Focus of UH at Sugar Land Research

    A study from the University of Houston will examine the impact of housing instability on mental health in Fort Bend County. A partnership between UH, Fort Bend County Health and Human Services and PolicyMap, a data and analytics company, received more than $500,000 from the AIM-AHEAD Consortium, a National Institutes of Health-funded organization.

    Artificial Intelligence Drives Development of Cancer Fighting Software

    University of Houston researchers and their students are developing a new software technology, based on artificial intelligence, for advancing cell-based immunotherapy to treat cancer and other diseases. CellChorus Inc., a spinoff from the University of Houston, is commercializing the UH-developed Time-lapse Imaging Microscopy In Nanowell Grids™ platform for dynamic single-cell analysis with label-free analysis.

    NASA Awards UH $1.2 Million to Strengthen Diversity in STEM and Aerospace Engineering

    NASA is awarding the University of Houston $1.2 million to grow diversity initiatives in STEM and aerospace-related engineering fields and address barriers to access and success for historically underserved and underrepresented students. The award is for a project called the Partnership for Inclusivity in Engineering Education and Research for Space, also known as PIE 2RS.

    UH Energy Hydrogen Symposium Report Highlights Gulf Coast Hydrogen Ecosystem Opportunities and Challenges

    The UH Division of Energy & Innovation recently released an in-depth report titled “The Gulf Coast Hydrogen Ecosystem: Opportunities and Solutions,” following a similarly titled symposium focused on developing a successful Gulf Coast hydrogen ecosystem. The symposium hosted last spring by UH Energy brought together industry experts, policymakers, and academics to explore the potential of hydrogen as a clean energy source.

    UH’s Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine Welcomes New Dean

    The University of Houston has welcomed Dr. Jonathan McCullers as its new vice president of health affairs and the second dean of the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine. McCullers succeeds Dr. Stephen Spann, Fertitta College of Medicine’s founding dean, who retired in August after four decades in medicine, including the last eight at UH. “It is a tremendous honor to be selected as the second dean of the Fertitta College of Medicine,” McCullers says.

Pan-African Passport With Kucheza Ngoma Dance

Through colorful drumming and dance, Kucheza Ngoma Dance Company chronicles the influence of the African diaspora on dance, starting with traditional West African rhythms and dance and moving on through the Caribbean and into the Americas. This journey culminates with Jamaican pop-culture’s Dancehall, which evolved from traditional West African and West Indian folk-dance styles. The interactive nature of this program will bring participants in the audience on stage to drum, dance, and do the limbo!
