Ferroelectric fluoride compositions and methods of making and using same
A low temperature hydrothermal method to synthesize polycrystalline BaMF 4 (M = Mg,
Co, Ni, and Zn) has been developed. The reagents used were BaF2, NiF2 . 4H2O, MgF2,
CoF2, ZnF2. 4H2O, CF3COOH, NH4. HF2 and H2O, and the synthesis occurred at 230°C
over 2 days. The product, polycrystalline BaMF 4, was recovered in near quantitative yield
is phase-pure form. The purity was confirmed through X-ray diffraction analysis.
