A method for molecular extraction in live cells

Single cell analysis has become essential to explore accurate signal and network of cellular heterogeneity. But it remains a challenge to manipulate single cell for cellular analysis without compromise of cell viability. We propose a physical approach, termed nanospearing, to manipulate single cell with preserved cell viability. Both delivery of exogenous molecules into cells and extraction of endogenous molecules out of cells can be achieved through nanospearing approach. And the low invasiveness of nanopsearing is non-fatal to cell viability. Thus this approach provides a new opportunity to manipulate the designated cell for vast biomedical purpose, i.e., cellular signal studying, disease diagnosing and drug screening, etc.
