Compositions, Methods and Kits for Treating a Contact Lens

In addition to vision correction contact lenses have been used for corneal protection, corneal healing, and pain relief. Currently the prescription of these so called therapeutic lenses is commonly accompanied by drugs such as antibiotics, anti--inflammatories to facilitate the healing process and minimize risks of infection. For example, after corneal surgery or severe corneal abrasion, certain patients will be given bandage contact lenses and prescribed several eye drops that should be administered multiple times per day, in some cases, some drugs need to be administered every two hours or more, which is laborious for patients and encourages low compliance. Furthermore, preservatives are commonly present in eye drops, which can attach onto contact lenses and cause further harm to the eyes. In this invention, we develop a new type of therapeutic contact lens with pre-- deposited drugs utilizing the strong and specific fluorous attractions between fluorinated molecules to modify contact lenses.
