For imaging of living cells or small organisms by mircroscopy over extended periods of time, the temperature needs to be optimal for the cells or organisms imaged. This can be obtained through the use of an incubator that is mounted on the microscope, or by a heated stage. Both these options are expensive. We have constructed a tissue culture 2 well plate with temperature control through 3D printing. Our first prototype uses circulating water to control the temperature; future plates will be constructed to use electrical heating. Our "thermoplate" is easy to use, controls the temperature well, reusable and is inexpensive. It works well on any inverted microscope.
