SINGLE PHASE SINGLE STAGE BI-DIRECTIONAL LEVEL 1 ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY CHARGER

This report proposes a Silicon Carbide metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistor (SiC MOSFET) based bidirectional single-phase single-stage level-1 converter topology for electric vehicle (EV) battery charging application. AC side of the proposed converter has current-fed full bridge matrix converter that is connected to another full-bridge converter on secondary side of a high-frequency (HF) transformer. The proposed topology provides inherent power factor correction (PFC) feature at the input side irrespective of the load condition. The proposed converter achieves zero current switching (ZCS) of primary side switches during grid to vehicle mode of operation and ZCS for both side devices during vehicle to grid mode of operation without any additional components.
