This invention pertains to aryl-substituted acetamide and pyrrolidin-2-one (gamma-butyrolactam) derivatives bearing various substituents in the aromatic ring. These derivatives have useful antiseizure activity as applicable to epilepsy and nerve agent poisoning. This invention also describes pharmaceutical formulations of these derivatives and their therapeutic applications in epilepsy and nerve agent poisoning.
