Sensorized Bead-Wire Toy for Studying Finger Force and Manual Dexterity
Current clinical tests of hand function in children focus on assessing the time or speed to complete a functional task. However, such measures lack sensitivity in identifying subtle deficits in developmental hand function or in detecting small changes in hand function following a treatment. Moreover, these measures fail to provide information on the forces exerted on an object.
A device has been invented to assess hand function and this device integrates a measure of dynamic control of digit forces with a time-based measure. A comprehensive assessment using this device will provide clinicians a sensitive tool to assess the effectiveness of a treatment in a time efficient manner and detect deviations from age norms in children.
