Transfer Student Guide
Step 1: Learn more about your academic college
Welcome to Coog Nation. Now that you’ve been admitted, it’s time to review your admissions letter and learn more about your academic college. In your letter, you will see what program you were admitted to. If you were admitted to your second or third choice major, make an appointment with an admissions advisor or your recruitment specialist to learn more about your admissions decision.
How to Change Your Major
We understand students may change their minds about what to study in college. The option to change your academic major is only available after receiving admission to UH and must be completed no later than two weeks before your registered New Student Orientation date.
- Log in to your myUH account
- Select the "Tasks" tile
- Locate your To-Do List and select "UH Choice of Major"
- Complete the instructions and click “Submit”
Step 2: myUH Account
You received an ID number that serves as your login for your myUH account via accessuh.uh.edu. You can keep track of your progress toward enrollment, check missing items and keep up with due dates throughout the enrollment process.
Step 3: Financial Aid and Scholarships
If you've completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA), be sure to check your myUH account and your email frequently. Additional information or verification may be required to complete or accept your financial aid award.
Important Deadlines
- Financial Aid Priority Deadline: April 15, 2024
- Apply for FAFSA
- Apply for TASFA
Step 4: Housing
Living on campus is the best way to be at the center of all the action at UH. Rooms fill up fast, so apply as soon as you can. Important dates and details are available on the Student Housing and Residential Life website.
The housing application opens in December, and room selection opens in March.
Students who live on campus are required to have a meal plan.
Meal Plan
Ready to eat your way around campus? Purchase a meal plan.
Step 5: Health Requirements
Complete the required health and immunization records to support our commitment to a safe and healthy campus. Submit your bacterial meningitis immunization document and decide whether you need the Student Health Insurance Plan.
Step 6: Register for Transfer Orientation
All new transfer students are required to attend Transfer Orientation to learn about traditions, resources and steps to success at the University of Houston. You will connect with other new Coogs, be introduced to UH traditions, get acquainted with campus resources and schedule a time to meet with your academic advisor. Attending orientation in the correct major is vital to your transition to UH. If you're interested in changing your major, please fill out the change of major form at least two weeks before your orientation session. If you were admitted or applied for the summer term, you must request a term update prior to signing up for orientation.
Orientation registration opens in March, for all questions regarding Transfer Orientation, email orientation@uh.edu.
Cougar Card
Your Cougar Card will be your most important piece of student identification on campus. You can print documents, buy food and access buildings and athletic events with a simple swipe.
Step 7: Final Transcripts
Send us your final transcript, as well as any advance placement (AP), college or dual credit documentation. Future class registration may be impacted if your final transcripts are not received before your first term at UH starts.
For faster service, ask your school administrator to send your transcript data electronically through an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system, e.g. TREx (for Texas institutions).
If you can't send it electronically, your school administrator can send a PDF version of your official transcript to us through Parchment or Naviance.
If both above options are not available, your school administrator can mail your official transcripts to the following address:
University of Houston
Office of Undergraduate Admissions
4434 University Drive
Houston, TX 77204
