Biographical Summary
Jessica Gottlieb is Associate Professor at the University of Houston's Hobby School of Public Affairs and holds a PhD in Political Science and MA in Economics from Stanford University. She is co-Director of the Democratic Erosion Consortium and a board member of the Evidence in Governance and Politics (EGAP) network (2019 - ). Gottlieb’s first research stream is on the political economy of development, investigating constraints to government accountability and state capacity in new democracies, largely in sub-Saharan Africa where she conducts field experiments, behavioral games, and surveys. Her second research stream is on affective polarization and misinformation in the US and abroad. Gottlieb’s work has been published in the American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, World Politics, Journal of Politics, and Science Advances, among others.
