Biography
Gregorio Gomez, Ph.D.
Gregorio Gomez, Ph.D., is a clinical professor of immunology in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine. He is responsible for teaching immunology in the Scientific Foundations of Medicine course and throughout the organ-based courses. In addition, he is director for the Integumentary System course, and co-director for the Hematologic and Lymphatic Systems course.
Gomez earned a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in biological sciences from the University of Texas at Austin and trained as a postdoctoral fellow at National Institutes of Health (NIH). Prior to joining the Fertitta Family College of Medicine, he held faculty positions at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and Virginia Commonwealth University. His scientific expertise is in mast cell biology, IgE receptor signal transduction and allergic disease. He has conducted NIH-funded research and published numerous peer-reviewed articles.
Gomez has successfully mentored numerous undergraduate, doctoral and medical students in biomedical research, and has served on various collegial committees. Gomez is an active member of the American Association of Immunologists, from which he received a Careers in Immunology Fellowship.
